FAQs
How do I become a Medplus Patient?
It couldn't be simpler to enrol as a patient. Either pop in and complete a form at reception prior to your first appointment, or call 09 489 2011 and request an enrolment form, or go to the Registration tab at the top of the screen and submit your details (or download and compete the enrolment form and send through to Medplus Lake Road, PO Box 304030, Hauraki Corner). Your enrolment is only complete when we have a signature on your form. We do need you to confirm you are eligible for enrolment with our PHO.
What is enrolment?
When you enrol with us you also enrol with our PHO (Primary Health Organisation). Enrolment is voluntary, but brings benefits including subsidised appointment costs and many extra services. To enrol you need to provide some information about yourself, confirm you are eligible to enrol and sign the form. The information collected is protected under the Privacy Act 1993, and the Health Information Privacy Code 1994. For more information on PHOs and enrolment go to the Ministry of Health website, www.moh.govt.nz and visit the section on Primary Health Care.
When should I enrol?
You can enrol at the time of your first appointment, however it is really useful if you enrol in advance of this to give us time to get hold of your old medical records.
Am I eligible to enrol?
You are eligible to enrol if you are a New Zealand citizen (or a citizen of the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau), if you have a New Zealand residency class visa and are currently residing in New Zealand, if you are a citizen of Australia or have a current permenant residence visa and intend to stay in New Zealand for at least 2 consecutive years, or if you have a work visa that allows you to stay in New Zealand for 2 years. There are some other criteria for eligibility - talk to our receptionists for more details.
Do I have to enrol?
We can see you as a patient even if you are enrolled elsewhere. For example if your normal medical centre is closed or if you are a visitor to the area. We can also see you if you are ineligible to enrol. We will still need to collect some details from you before your appointment and we like to send your regular doctor the consultation notes if you permit us. You will not receive the cost saving benefits of enrolment, but you will remain enrolled with your normal doctor.
What hours is the centre open?
Medplus Lake Road is open 8.00am through 8.00pm, Monday through Friday and 9.00am through 12.00pm Saturday and Sunday. After 6.30pm on weekdays and weekend clinics are walk in sessions and no booking is required. The centre is located at 327 Lake Road. A map of the location is available by clicking on the "Locate US" button at the top right of this screen. We only close for 6 days a year; 25th Dec, 26th Dec, 1st Jan, 2nd Jan, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The other public holidays we are open. See the Holidays Opening Hours tab for more details of hours over the holidays.
Which doctor will I see?
Our doctors are some of the best in New Zealand. You can select any doctor at the practice as your preferred provider. All of our doctors have bookable appointments during the week. In the weekends we have a walk in clinic. Go to the Doctor Profile tab at the top of the screen to view the backgrounds of our doctors.
If I enrol, what happens to my existing health records?
Once you are enrolled, Medplus will obtain all your previous health records and upload them into the practice software. This will mean that all your health history will be available to your doctor to ensure your treatments are tailored to your health conditions.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Monday through Friday we operate an appointment booking system to keep waiting times to a minimum. At weekends an appointment is not required.
How long is an appointment?
Booked appointments on weekdays are a total of 15 minutes. This includes 5 minutes for reading notes and record keeping, plus 10 minutes of consulting time. Please consider this if you have several issues to discuss and think about booking a double appointment. This way your GP can get through all your issues without having to rush you. Please book one appointment for each member of the family who needs to be seen.
What is the cost of an appointment?
The charge depends on your age group, whether or not you are enrolled and the nature of the care you need. The receptionists will be happy to advise you of the appropriate charge when you book your appointment. Please note there is a surcharge for appointments after 6pm and at weekends. Payment is to be made at the time of the appointment. |
